Governor Ole Lenku Applauds Motorsport as Service Park Hosts County Leadership
Amboseli, Kajiado County 9th Dec 2025 – The 2025 MRF Tyres East African Safari Classic Rally Tuesday received a major boost of goodwill and support following a visit by Kajiado County Governor, H.E. Joseph Ole Lenku, to the official rally service park at Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
The Governor toured the extensive service park setup where rally teams and crews were fully engaged in inspection, maintenance, and fine-tuning of their classic machines ahead of the rally’s continuation tomorrow.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku praised the rally for its positive impact on tourism and the local economy.
“For a long time, the Safari Rally has been part of who we are, and today we are truly happy to host the Classic Safari Rally here in Kajiado. The event has a significant positive impact on our county and on our local economy. Many of our people benefit directly through participation and by providing services, while our hotels and lodges are fully occupied. Beyond the economic value, the rally also brings great joy and revives cherished memories of past Safari Rally competitions. For motorsport lovers, there is nothing quite like experiencing it live, not just on television.
”He took time to interact with drivers, navigators, and technical crews, receiving firsthand insight into the demanding nature of the rally and the high level of preparation required to conquer Kenya’s rugged terrain.
Governor Lenku was guided through the service park by the event’s Deputy Clerk of Course, Riyaz Ismail, alongside other senior officials of the organizing team, who briefed him on the logistics, safety measures, and operational flow that support the smooth running of the iconic motorsport event.
Riyaz welcomed the Governor’s visit, describing it as a strong show of institutional support for the rally and for motorsport development within the region.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the Governor and the people of Kajiado for the very warm welcome we have received along the stages. The villages have turned out in large numbers to spectate and cheer, with children lining the routes, and we have enjoyed excellent cooperation from the police and the community elders. It truly is always a pleasure to return to Amboseli for our rest day. As you know, Amboseli is one of the finest parks we have in the country. While the cars are being repaired and prepared, our crews and clients get to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and the magnificent view of the mountain in the background.” Riyaz.
The visit came as teams utilized the rest and service day to recover from several gruelling legs of competition and prepare both drivers and machinery for the demanding stages that resume tomorrow across Kajiado and surrounding regions.
