Starting as an engine builder for the works team, Jiri went on to co-drive with Karel Šimek and Svatopluk Kvaizar before taking a position running the works rally squad until 1989, when he joined the Skoda company management team until 1994. He has built Skoda rally cars for marathon events including the 1993 London to Sydney rally.
