New Chief Scrutineer for Safari Classic Rally

The organisers of the Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally are pleased to announce that they have appointed a new chief scrutineer. The gentleman in question is Geoff Doe. He is currently the series scrutineer for the UK Motor Sports Association Asphalt Challenge and has over forty years of experience as a rally competitor, racecar preparer and rally scrutineer.

His early motor sport involvement came in two forms. On one side he was working with the team that prepared and ran Chevrolet Camaros and Ford 3-litre Capris for Stuart Graham while on the other he was rallying first a Talbot Sunbeam and then a Group 4 Ford Escort. It was at the wheel of the Sunbeam that he won the Welsh Forest Championship in 1989.

In 1990, he became a scrutineer working under the aegis of the MSA and finally became one of their Technical Commissioners in 2004. He spent ten years as Championship Scrutineer for the Mitsubishi Challenge on events in the UK, Sweden and Ireland. He also took the role of series scrutineer in 2005/6 for the WRC Academy (FIA Junior World Championship) and their Ford Fiesta STis. His WRC experience also includes being Chief Scrutineer for the Rally of Turkey for nine years. Finally for the last eight years Geoff has been invited to be the scrutineer for the Race of Champions in places like Beijing, Germany, Thailand and Barbados.

“I’m really looking forward to my new challenge as Chief Scrutineer on the East African Safari Classic” says Geoff. “It is this rally that has always fascinated me and now I am going to be part of it.”
