At least one competitor on the Kenya Airways Safari Classic Rally has chalked up a good result on an international rally in the week prior to the Safari getting out on the road in Mombasa on Thursday morning. The man is question is Stéphane Prévot who was co-driving for Stéphane Lefebvre on the Wales Rally GB, the final round of the World Rally Championship that finished on Sunday.
They drove a Citroën DS3 WRC for the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team into seventh place overall and were the highest placed non-manufacturer nominated crew to finish.
On the Safari Classic, Prévot will be co-driving ex-World Rally Champion, Stig Blomqvist, in a Tuthill Porsche 911 entered by the Rally4Health team. On the last Safari Classic in 2003, Blomqvist had victory snatched from him in the very last competitive section when his Porsche sustained a puncture. Up until then, he and the eventual winner, Ian Duncan driving a V8 Ford Capri, had been trading times over the competitive sections as if they were on a sprint rally with just seconds separating them. The re-match should be equally exciting !
