Day 2: Quotes from the Drivers

1: THE REAL STIG

Two nice stages today down there, so that was good. A few mishaps that have affected everybody, but we are all doing okay.

2: CARL TUNDO – KEN

First section had a puncture which forced me drive like a granny, losing a bit of time. I think I was put off by the punctures first thing. So that put me back. The last one we lost fifth gear but I think everyone had problems in that one. The leader has a few problems too, but everyone’s having problems. Tomorrow, we will pick up from where we left off.

3. BALDEV CHAGER – KEN

We didn’t have a good start. Lost fifty seconds trying to get into the first stage. We had a problem with the rear left wheel. The stage itself went okay and I think we had a decent time but we still managed. Thankfully the stage was smooth which worked very well for us.

7: RAAJI BHARIJ – KEN

So far we have had a trouble-free run until today! We had a brake failure and it was quite scary because it was a fast stage with ditches and wash-aways but we managed to get it. I thought I had a bad day but when you see other drivers having engine failures, gear box failures, it puts in perspective. My car is here and we are still running. So there are seven more days to go, anything can happen. We will just keep motoring.

10: ONKAR RAI – KEN

Started off very well in both stages with decent times in the first and second stage. When we got to the second stage the engine had overheated but managed to finish the stage. So we are back into service and hope we can change it in two hours, so we don’t get a penalty and start tomorrow. The pace was good but we don’t want to break the car.

11: ROGER SAMUELSSON – SWE

We had a double puncture on stage one and stage two. In stage two, it went well and we caught up with the next car but the overtaking button didn’t work as we were behind them for a stretch. Other than that, all is well.

12: JAYANT SHAH – TNZ

The rally is good so far and well organised. The weather will be the only issue as we go ahead. I liked today’s stages including the crossover into Tanzania, it was amazing.

14: IAN FREESTONE – GB

I think we were lucky to have our problems on the first day yesterday. Today we have had a fairly good run, but nothing fantastic really. No major problems and we are pleased with that, so we hope to carry on that way. You have to take it a day at a time. You have good days and bad days but we should be able to finish.

15: TEJVEER RAI – KEN

The rally was much better than yesterday. Good stages, nice flowing stages. The car is holding up. Unfortunately we were put far back and we caught up with a lot of dust.

18: FRANK TUNDO – KEN

The last stage was canceled out of the respect of the accident. Now I don’t know what happens but it was good they canceled it. Second section was fantastic however I lost one of my shock absorbers. I can’t remember the 1st one but I know it was good.

21: RAMESH VISHRAM – KEN

Very long day especially from last night, servicing and finishing at 10pm. Going to sleep at 12am, waking up at 3am. Then starting the day with a long drive all the way to Ol-Donyo Longido. The sections were great, fast, smooth, hairpins and super sections, I must say.

29: POWEL MOLGO – POL

Second stage was dusty with maximum dust and that was a major problem. But the funny thing is that at the exact same spot two years ago we had a technical problem and we had to stop. Today it happened again at the same spot and we stopped but with a different problem. Now we are focused for tomorrow and am sure we will continue with a good run.

30: TIM MAMMEN – KEN

We went very well through the two stages and we didn’t have any issues. First section was very rough but we went through with no punctures. Second stage we had a nice smooth flowing drive. I don’t know if we were quick or anything. The car is holding up very well no problem, its only two days but they do get a real beating. Overall we had a good day.

31: NISH LAKHANI – KEN

With the Safari you never know what will be thrown at you and that’s why we always come back for the Safari Classic. We have had a good run today, fantastic stages unfortunately I could not open up the throttle completely as I planned but anyway we got here and that makes us happy. We are at the back with the small cars and we just go out there to have fun and if we can come home every day, hopefully we can climb up the ladder.

32: DINESH SACHANIA – KEN

The two sections were excellent: no waiting like yesterday and it was great fun. Car is behaving very well and we are just taking it a day at a time.
