Latest NewsSafari Entries Mount Among the latest additions are Bert Dolk from Holland in a Volvo 122S and Safari regular, Dave Kedward who will be sharing a Ford Escort Mk1 with local preparation expert, Crispin Sassoon. Roddy Sachs who did the event in 2005 with an Alfa Romeo 2000 is returning with a team of three Datsun 180Bs partnered by fellow South Africans, Geoff Bell and Wayne Kieswetter who are driving the other two cars. Australian interest seems to be running high with three entries from Down-Under already and the indications are that there are more competitors ready to make the long journey from the Antipodes to East Africa in November. Full details of the route outline
and night halts will not be available for a while but one major difference
for 2007 is that at least three of the night halts will be for two consecutive
nights. As well as reducing the number of mornings that competitors have
to fully pack their gear, this will make the stops in game lodges much
more user-friendly and, if there are friends and family following their
progress, much more sociable. Where there is a double halt, the intervening
day's route is presented as loop and has enabled much more of the traditional
East African Safari Rally territory to be explored both in Kenya and Tanzania.
On one of these loops, the rally plans to use roads that have not formed
part of a Safari route since the mid-1960s. E-mail: safari.press@btinternet.com |
