The defending champion of the last Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally and multiple Kenya National Rally champion, Ian Duncan has entered the 2011 edition.

Driving a powerful 3 litre engine Ford Capri he will be navigated by his regular co-driver Amaar Slatch. The 1970 model Ford Capri is currently being prepared at his Karen workshops and is a similar car to the Ford Capri entered by Bill Parkinson during Kenya’s hey days of racing at the Nakuru and Embakasi race tracks.

During the 2009 event Ian Duncan lead the rally from start to finish in his Ford Mustang and will definitely be a top contender in the 2011 event which will start from Mombasa on the 19th November 2011.

Ian Duncan who won the Safari Rally in 1994 when it was a round of the World Rally Championship will join 37 other crews who have entered so far on this the “World Greatest Classic Car Rally”. The event will cover a marathon 4300 kilometers taking the crews through the remote and beautiful landscapes of Kenya and Tanzania.

“I am really looking forward to driving the Ford Capri which will be much better prepared since we have learnt a lot about this event over the past two participations. It should give me all the things I love in rallying in one event” said the four times Kenya rally champion.

With Duncan’s entry the KQ Safari Classic Rally 2011, have four possible top contenders challenging for victory. Gregoire De Mevius in a Porsche 911, Gerard Marcy also in a Porsche 911, Bjorn Waldergard in a Tuthill Porsche and Ian Duncan in a Ford Capri.

The 2009 Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic rally has been scheduled outside the international rally calendar to give an opportunity for international and local media coverage to be at its maximum. Access Kenya will be providing Internet connectivity all around the rally route to beam out the latest stories and rally news to the world’s media houses.
