NEWS OF FUTURE EVENTS The Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally finished in Mombasa last Tuesday, December 2nd. Several high-ranking Kenya Airways executives attended the prize giving that night. They were led by the Chairman of the airline, Evanson Mwaniki, who gave the keynote speech during which he made clear that Kenya Airways were delighted with their involvement with the Safari Classic and would be continuing their sponsorship of the event for the subsequent edition. This will be held at approximately the same time in late November/early December of 2011 following the tradition of a bi-annual event. Further details will appear on the East African Safari website as they become available and anyone seeking information can do so from the website. The organisers of the Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally would like to thank all their friends in the press and media round the world for the coverage that their event has received. And on the other hand, it has also been rewarding to receive expressions of thanks from those individuals who have subscribed to this media information service. During the Safari Classic Rally, the Event Director, Surinder Thatthi, had announced that he would be running another African event in October 2010. This too would be for cars built before December 31st, 1975 but the location was to be in Morocco. In partnership with Paul-Eric Jarry, Marrakech resident and regular competitor on the Safari Classic, Surinder Thatthi has planned a seven-day revival of the old Rallye du Maroc that ran for many years through the 1960s and 70s and was a counter for the World Rally Championship in its early days. The route of 3,500 kms starts and finishes in Marrakech and each day will have at least three competitive sections with a total distance of around 300 kms. Like the Safari Classic, the Rallye du Maroc is an FIA event and appears in the list of FIA International events. More information can be found on the new event's website at www.rallyeinternationaldumaroc.com including contact details for both Paul-Eric Jarry and Surinder Thatthi and their respective event offices.
