From Carl Tundo

“basically my driver tried his best to kill me at every stage of the event! First he ran over my foot on day one, and then he slammed my fingers in the bonnet in Eldoret! When he wasn’t physically assaulting me he managed it in other ways - forcing me to get out and push the car through Nairobi rush hour traffic as well as on a good 50% of the stages!

Then finally on the penultimate day we hit the only 'triple caution stop ditch' of the whole event flat out !! Apart from these minor incidents nothing major to report”

From Alastair Cavenagh

‘We had a great start to the event and then rapidly slipped down, and almost completely off the leaderboard ! Unfortunately, the car came with an engine designed for circuit racing rather than the steep and narrow hills and hairpins of Africa and consequently my co driver lost a bit of (much needed and long overdue I might add ) weight pushing the car up nearly every steep hill that we encountered.

He got his own back on day 2 by dropping the car on my elbow whilst changing a puncture which set the scene for a week long battle between the two of us to see who could exact the most physical damage to the other. I think I won - just! Although his horrific snoring which I had to endure on a nightly basis could well be construed as mental and psychological torture which I am not taking into account!

Overall a huge amount of fun which could possibly have seen us give Collinge a small run for his money had the engine been suitable. We did, however, manage to set quite a number! of fastest stage times when the stages were either, flat or down hill and particularly over the rougher sections. Roll on the next on!’
